McDonald's Happy Meals in Brazil are promoting My Little Pony! This set is entirely different from the McDonald's set we are used to seeing. It comes with four ponies (Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack and Rainbow Dash) who light up when you press a button. The website for them can be found here.

Lauren Faust uploaded some Friendship is Magic development sketches to her deviantART account. These were drawn in 2008 and were used in the original pitch bible for the show, (a pitch bible is used to present the concept of an animated project to a broadcaster). She added some interesting tidbits about the development of the show in her comments on the entries. I will highlight some of them here.
"Star Gazing Twilight"
Image Source
In this sketch, Twilight's cutie mark is a variation of G1 pony Moondancer's. Lauren says Moondancer was another pony she like as a kid.
"Unicorn Family"
Image Source
Described as "random Fillydelphia residents." Lauren Faust had wanted Ponyville, the main setting of the Friendship is Magic cartoon, to be called Fillydelphia originally.
"Dragon"
Image Source
The adult dragons were pitched as being "pretty" to address any worries that their appearance would frighten children. That was changed, though as Lauren says on the entry, it would have been interesting to see a pretty, sparkly dragon.
"Appleseed"
Image Source
Interesting note about Apple Bloom! Her original name was Appleseed, and she was all alone in her quest for a cutie mark. Her name reflected her crusade as ""seed" signified that she still needed to grow." Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle were developed later on.
"Shy" Image Source
Fluttershy as an earth pony!
"Dopey Manticore" Image Source
Like the adult dragons, there was concern that the manticore would be too scary for kids, so he was made to look a bit "dopey" in the pitch. To Lauren Faust's delight, she later received a note that he was not intimidating enough!
There are more sketches in her gallery. She will be moving them to scraps later on, but they will still be around for all to enjoy.
Way back in June I posted about a live Friendship is Magic show in Alberta, Canada. Apparently it was just the second show of a tour throughout Canada. The schedule is available on kidomo.com, and admission to all shows is free. You can also watch the show online - the YouTube is embedded above.

For those not familiar with Jayson Thiessen, he is supervising director for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Recently he answered some FiM fans' burning questions via a Reddit Q&A segment. A few interesting notes:
While human characters are not foreign to the My Little Pony franchise, they will not be making an appearance in Friendship is Magic.

In the Friendship is Magic fandom, "background ponies," who typically have little-to-no speaking roles in the actual show, have become a bit of a phenomenon. Fans have given them names, backgrounds and personalities, and have incorporated them into various fanworks. Notable background ponies are Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo, Doctor Whooves, Lyra and Bon-Bon. With the exception of Derpy, however, the FiM team plans to keep them as background ponies.
Although the background ponies may not be developed, there is still hope for one-shot characters! It seems that The Great and Powerful Trixie may make a return.

Anyway, this one was sent from someone who works at a bakery in New Jersey. Apparently they receive a calendar that mentions important dates/movie releases so they can plan ahead for specific trends. This is the October page.
There really is no telling if the information is completely accurate, since things to tend to change. This calendar has also been around for a while now (Released around the beginning of the year!)
If DVDs are in fact released in October, they could be anything from a compilation of a few episodes (ala Celebration at Canterlot) to, if we're lucky, all of the first season! Ah, just kidding. I doubt it will be that big, but still something to look forward to. Stay tuned to MLPNews for updates.

[Editor's Note: I would like to make a correction. The toys pictured above are not the toys that will be found in Mexican Happy Meals. Instead, it will be the four light-up toys. Sorry about the confusion. Information on the light-up toys was not available at the time this news post was created.]

"I want to pony."
"Then go to Equestria!"
"You don't understand, I want to pony on my TV!"
Maybe you'll get the reference, maybe you won't, google The Italian Man who went to Malta. Foals, fillies, and colts, ask your parents to watch the videos first.
What I'm trying to say is Friendship is Magic is making it's way to Italy. A lot of people think Italy is the capital of Rome. This is not true. It's the other way around. And soon, both Italy and Rome will be able to their get pony fix in Italian.
First North America, then Spain, France, now Italy, soon, the world. Can't stop the pony, yo.
Check out an Italian spot for Friendship is Magic here;
In other Italian news, a reader by the name of 'Grifen' has informed us about the Italian MLP community! Read what he had to say here;
"Hello! I think some of your Italian readers would like to know that there's an Italian Friendship is Magic community! We have a forum called 'Cutie Mark Crusaders', and you can find it here. We also have an Italian language blog to accompany the forum, called 'The Horror, The Horror!', which you can visit here. Both the blog and the forum are in Italian. And you can head to our facebook page!
As well, Italia 1, one of the bigger TV channels in Italy is going to start airing the first season! It's going to premiere on August 29th, at 8:20. Unfortunately, in my opinion, Italian TV networks have yet to realize how popular Friendship is Magic is. I'm not sure how well Italia 1 is going to treat it, seeing as in the past they've had a bad track record with translating cartoons.
I have some episodes on YouTube with Italian translations, too! You can check those out here.
Additional Information: We will be meeting at about 2:00 PM by the big
metal thing. (It's art!) There will be swimming, food, ponies, games,
and ponies! We'll be grilling out for dinner, and serving Pinkie Pie's
trademark hot sauce cupcakes for dessert. More Info can be found on
the blog linked above!"

We've all recently freaked out when we saw the rumoured air date for season two was september 17th, right? Then we all spazzed out when it was confirmed, right? Well, maybe you didn't freak out, though when I heard the news, my reaction was something like this.
I'm sure a lot of you had similar, or identical reactions.
It looks like Friendship is Magic is going to be taking up it's old time slot at 9AM, too (FiM is listed at the very bottom). So remember everypony, don't stay up too late on Friday nights, 'cause you're gonna have to get your pony fix on Saturday morning.
A 13 Days of Halloween Swap is open for signups at the MLP Arena.
"It’s a Halloween advent swap…meaning that you will be getting thirteen gifts for your partner (13 is a nice, Halloweeny number XD). You will buy 13 gifts for your partner (one for every day beginning with October 19th) and ship them all in one box. (Number them either according to the order in which they should unwrap them, or with the date--hopefully the shipping times will allow everyone to get their gift in time to open them.)
At least two must be ponies, and at least two should be Halloween themed (whether decorations, toys, candy, or whatnot.)"
Deadline for signups is Friday, August 26, 2011, "or until I hit fifteen people. Whichever happens first. If I get a lot of interest, I might extend the signups to 20 people, but no more." There are already 14 participants as I write this, so hurry up and sign-up, or hope the signup list gets extended.

He recently mentioned on twitter that he received the 'newly mastered' theme song;
"Just got back the newly mastered theme song. Sooooo sweeeeet."
New theme song for season two? Maybe! Or just the old theme song remastered? Not sure! I'll definitely let ya all know if anything else is figured out.
UPDATE. On Twitter, I asked Daniel Ingram if it was in fact a new song, or just the old track remastered, and he was kind enough to respond!
After the singing Twilight Sparkle plush was found to have a different version of the opening theme, I was thinking that maybe there'd be a new theme song. Apparently it's not to be!
