This blog will help promote artists who make and sell My Little Pony items such as custom toys, plush, sculptures, cosplay materials, jewelry, and more! If you are an artist looking to promote your wares, or someone looking to buy unique My Little Pony items and customs, Brony Merch is a great place to start.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Extended Theme Song

"The Friendship Express" DVD to be released on Tuesday!

Mark your calendars, pony fans! "The Friendship Express" is slated for release this Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

You can still pre-order the DVD on Amazon for $9.99. The set includes the following episodes:

• Friendship is Magic, Part 1 (Mare in the Moon)
• Friendship is Magic, Part 2 (Elements of Harmony)
• Over a Barrel
• Hearth's Warming Eve
• The Last Roundup

According to the Friendship is Magic Wiki, the DVD will also include MLP sing-a-longs, "Meet the Ponies",  coloring pages, and the first episode of Pound Puppies ("The Yipper Caper").

Equestria Daily has released a review on "The Friendship Express". According to this, the full version of the theme song that was found in the Twilight Sparkle Animated Storyteller is included as a special feature. Pretty cool!

Wedding - Save the Date!

My Little Pony has posted a "save the date" on their Facebook page, along with a shot of Princess Cadence and Shining Armor. We get an up-close look at the figures AND a view of their cutie marks! Looks like the wedding promotion will start sometime in the spring.

New McDonald's Toys Coming to the US!

Hooray! Included are the mane six, Cheerilee and Lily Blossom. They have brushable tails and look to be keychains. Rumor has it that these will be showing up in Happy Meals sometime in March.

2012 Toy Fair - Wedding Items and Blind Bags

Lots of news from the 2012 Toy Fair. Thanks to Idle Hands and My Little Pony G4 for this info!

The wedding will be a big focus in 2012. We have already seen the Pony Princess Wedding Castle and talking Princess Cadence, but those are just the tip of the pastel-colored ice berg.

18 Playful Pony figures will be released with wedding-themed accessories.

Glimmer Wings Fluttershy and Daisy Dreams will see a release this year.

Bridesmaids ponies! Four bridesmaids ponies are slated for release and will come in packs of two. No mane six? I wonder who is going to be left out?

"Forever Friends" pack - The Cutie Mark Crusaders will star as the flower girls in the wedding.

We may be seeing re-releases of the Fashion Style ponies this year, or perhaps new ponies entirely? We'll see!

The blind bags--referred to as "clipstrips"--will continue to be released. The article claims that all three waves will be found this year. Woohoo!!

The article also mentions another release of talking Princess Celestia, and further releases of the train set ponies.

iTunes apparently made a mistake and released upcoming episode Hearts and Hooves Day early. I think iTunes has since pulled it, but the leaked video is supposedly now available on YouTube, if you feel inclined to search for it.

Valentine's Day Update at MyLittlePony.com

MyLittlePony.com has recently updated with a bunch of new content for Valentine's Day and to tie in to the upcoming "Hearts and Hooves Day" episode. There are Hearts and Hooves Day Puzzles, a Valentine's Day Card Creator, a Valentines Catcher, Cheerilee and Big Mac Coloring Page, and Friendship Express Train Maze.

Talking Princess Cadence Brushable

The Derpy Hooves Controversy

Controversy is brewing over "Derpy Hooves", a favorite background pony from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The complaint is that the pony makes fun of people with disabilities.

The little grey pegasus first appeared in the background of the first episode, and due to an animation error had eyes pointing in two different directions. Fans noticed the filly, and assigned her characteristics based upon her goofy appearance, christening her "Derpy Hooves" and assigning her ditzy qualities. A few people questioned whether equating a wall-eyed appearance with ditziness or stupidity was offensive; a few more pointed out that the term "derp" might be a slur against people with disabilities. However, despite these minor rumblings, the pony became a fan favorite.

The animators noticed, and began to give a few nods to fans with the placement of Derpy in humourous background scenes. For example, in Feeling Pinkie Keen (Season 1, Episode 15, and controversial in its own right), the pegasus is shown to be behind a classic cartoon gag.

"...when Twilight spies on Pinkie Pie, a series of objects falls on her head: a flower pot, an anvil, a cart of hay and finally a piano. A camera pan reveals that the items were dropped by Derpy and her friend Raindrops, who are hovering next to a movers' truck."

In season 2 these inclusions have become increasingly deliberate, culminating in "The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" "The Last Roundup" (Season 2, Episode 15 14), where Derpy was finally called by name, and given a voice. What was once a subtle joke became blatant, and likewise what was once a few rumblings became full blown controversy.



A lot of focus is now being given to the use of the term "derp" being offensive. On one hand pony t-shirt purveyor We Love Fine has dropped the name "Derpy" in their product descriptions. On the other is a petition to not change Derpy's name.

But it seems likely that the name is not the only cause of complaints. As was mentioned earlier, it might be considered offensive that a physical abnormality is combined with stupidity in this character. As well, the pony's voice might be of concern, though that's admittedly open to interpretation.

It's unclear what, if any, action Hasbro will be taking with regards to this controversy. No notable action has been taken on other complaints with the show (see: "Feeling Pinkie Keen", above; there have also been concerns of racism surrounding Zecora and the Buffalo from "Over a Barrel", which haven't stopped Zecora from being a returning character).
