Though strong Season 2 rumors have been circulating for some time, Hasbro has just made the official announcement in this press release:
Returning series with new episodes on The Hub for 2011-2012....
“My Little Pony Friendship is Magic”
Furthermore, Equestria Daily reports that Top Draw Animation is listing Season 2 (click on the MLP thumbnail on the right side of the page). Top Draw shows 24 episodes for the second season (down from 26 in Season 1). It also notes that production will commence April 2011 and conclude December 2011. However, since some episodes may air before all of the episodes are completed, it is not yet clear when Season 2 will begin to air.

G4 Games

Created in the Pony Generator by MLPNews

A number of fun G4 pony mini-games can be found on DerpyHooves.com. My personal favorite is a Pony Generator, which allows you to create a custom pony like the one pictured above. It's like the first part of the Adventures in Ponyville game. There's also a pair of similar Rainbow Dash side-scrollers apparently inspired by the Rainbow Dash game in Adventures in Ponyville - Rainbow Dash Attack and Rainbow Dash Mini Game. Finally, PacDerpy is a weird PacMan reboot.

Know any other pony games? Post about them in the comments.

G4 Cake Decorations

Summer-blade at the MLP Arena posted a number of G4 cake decorations that are available to bakeries.

First, there are edible images, "basically pictures printed with food coloring ink on a thin gum paste paper".

Second, there are pop tops, "flat plastic with images printed on them that are just set on the top of a cake".

And finally there are cupcake rings.

Summer-blade also mentions,
"there's a regular cake kit with A.J. and Twilight but I can't find a pic of it on the bakery supply websight. The kit will be out later this year most likely in a few months. The two figures have molded plastic manes and tails and are about the size of McD toys right now they only come in A.J. and Twilight."
and
"If you're gonna order cakes with this stuff on it you better ask you local bakery if they have this stuff yet if not get them to order it decorating supplies can take up to two weeks to be delivered when ordered."

Sugarcup Playful Pony - Cupcake Clone

Photos via StrawberryReef at the MLPTP

StrawberryReef at the MLPTP posted these pictures of Cupcake and a new playful pony, Sugarcup. There are several theories on the similar ponies:
  • They are twin ponies (twin baby ponies were part of the G1 line, though they were sold in pairs). The reversal of the hair pattern may be an indication of twins with a slight difference to differentiate between them.
  • They may be different names for US and International releases - perhaps the pony called Cupcake in the US will be called Sugarcup in Europe. (This may also be the case with Lulu Luck/Lucky Swirl).
  • Sugarcup may have been an earlier name for Cupcake, and the image of Sugarcup is of a prototype. rayechu at the MLPTP pointed out that Sugarcup does not have a TM, supporting this theory.

Pony Science - Pindot Cause

Pindot under a microscope - photo by BlackCurtains

Pony Mad Scientist BlackCurtains (who previously linked pony cancer to bacteria) has trained her microscope on another common pony affliction: pindot. Pindot - sometimes also referred to as 'pindot mold,' 'smooze,' or 'ingrained dirt' - appears as a rash of small black dots on the pony's surface, often on the legs and face. It can be very difficult to clean off of a pony, but it is sometimes possible to remove with time and effort (see Rhys' tutorial on pindot removal).

There are two primary theories on the cause of pindot. One is that pindot is a type of mold; the other assumes pindot is simply dirt stuck in the pores of the plastic. In BlackCurtains' studies of afflicted ponies under a microscope, pindot did not appear to be mold:
"Mold has what's called a sporangium. It doesn't look that dissimilar to a flower actually. The individual spores occur in chains and can resemble rod bacteria if they ungroup."
Thus, working under the assumption that pindot is ingrained dirt, BlackCurtains attempted to create pindot on a pony. Using backyard dirt,
"I simply took globs of the stuff and rubbed it onto her legs. I did this everyday for a week. I let the old mud dry on her legs before rubbing more on, so it really got caked in."
After a week the pony was cleaned, and appeared to have pindot. This indicates that ingrained dirt is a cause of pindot. It is fair to assume that it may be the most common cause, as many children played with their ponies in the dirt.

BlackCurtains is also experimenting with growing mold on a pony. It will definitely be very interesting to see the results of that experiment, as many pony afflictions like pindot and pony cancer have long been blamed on mold.
