Season 1, Episode 3 Recap - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Episode 18 is playing today, and I'm still way back on Episode 3 for recaps.  Oops! Well, better late than never, the recap for Season 1, Episode 3 "The Ticket Master" is after the jump.


Stirrup Street is named as a major street in Ponyville, when Applejack says "I bet Big McIntosh I could get all these Golden Delicious in the barn by lunchtime. If I win, he's gonna walk down Stirrup Street in one of Granny's girdles."

The episode centers around discussion of "The Grand Galloping Gala," a dance that takes place in Canterlot (see episode 1).

The Wonderbolts (see episode 1) perform at the Gala, and we get our fist good look at the flying team:

Rarity imagines meeting Princess Celestia's nephew at the gala. Since the only sibling of Celestia we know about is Princess Luna (see episode 2) and it's somewhat doubtful Luna has a son, it's very possible that this eligible bachelor exists only in Rarity's head.

Twilight Sparkle is so hungry she nibbles on the flowers decorating the table, perhaps inspiring her to order a daffodil and daisy sandwich. Spike hopes for a meal of rubies, but settles for hay fries.

It's interesting that ponies eat both realistic pony fare and people food (and that dragons eat gemstones or anything the ponies eat). Applejack offers Twilight some Apple Brown Betty, incidentally the name of another member of the Apple Family (see episode 1), Applejack's Auntie.

Fluttershy also shows off a bit of musical talent in this episode, humming the classic My Little Pony theme song. And Pinkie Pie has yet another song:

Finally, Twilight does a bit of unintentional teleportation, indicating that this magic student might not have full control of her abilities.
