Stirrup Street is named as a major street in Ponyville, when Applejack says "I bet Big McIntosh I could get all these Golden Delicious in the barn by lunchtime. If I win, he's gonna walk down Stirrup Street in one of Granny's girdles."
The episode centers around discussion of "The Grand Galloping Gala," a dance that takes place in Canterlot (see episode 1).
The Wonderbolts (see episode 1) perform at the Gala, and we get our fist good look at the flying team:

Pinkie Pie sings again, a Grand Galloping Gala song:
"Oh the Grand Galloping Gala is the best place for me!
Oh the Grand Galloping Gala is the best place for me!
Hip Hip Hooray, it's the best place for me!
For Pinkie!
Oh the Grand Galloping Gala is the best place for me!Rarity imagines meeting Princess Celestia's nephew at the gala. Since the only sibling of Celestia we know about is Princess Luna (see episode 2) and it's somewhat doubtful Luna has a son, it's very possible that this eligible bachelor exists only in Rarity's head.
Oh the Grand Galloping Gala is the best place for me!
'Cause it's most gallopy super terrific gala ever
In the whole galaxy!
Whee!"

Twilight Sparkle is so hungry she nibbles on the flowers decorating the table, perhaps inspiring her to order a daffodil and daisy sandwich. Spike hopes for a meal of rubies, but settles for hay fries.

It's interesting that ponies eat both realistic pony fare and people food (and that dragons eat gemstones or anything the ponies eat). Applejack offers Twilight some Apple Brown Betty, incidentally the name of another member of the Apple Family (see episode 1), Applejack's Auntie.

Fluttershy also shows off a bit of musical talent in this episode, humming the classic My Little Pony theme song. And Pinkie Pie has yet another song:
(Surprise!)(Lyrics from mlp.wikia.com)
Twilight is my bestest friend, whoopee
(Whoopee!)
(Pinkie...)
She's the cutest, smartest, all around best po-nee
(Po-nee!)
(Pinkie.)
I bet if I throw a super-duper fun par-tee
(Par-tee!)
(Pinkie!)
She'll give her extra ticket to the gala to me!
(PINKIE!)
This episode also has a tribute to Benny Hill with a crazy chase scene set to Yakety Sax.
Finally, Twilight does a bit of unintentional teleportation, indicating that this magic student might not have full control of her abilities.
