Mr. Trixie? Who? What? When? Never, that's when! But apparently it almost was a Mr. Trixie, as our favourite boastful filly was originally conceived as a colt.
The creator of Friendship is Magic, Lauren Faust, is active in the MLP community. She's not shy about answering fans questions, or writing editorials in defense of the show. It's obvious she put a lot into making FiM what it is, and really cares about the show.
Earlier today, I made a post about her answering a fans question on Deviant Art, and she's answered another! Someone inquired as to who came up with the idea of Trixie, and again, she responded;
Trixie was almost a colt! While Trixie is an antagonist, I still found her to be likable, I don't think she would have been the same as a male character. Can you imagine how not endearing she would have been if she were just your prototypical alpha male high school student with a big ego? Who knows what all was planned differently before it made it into the show! Maybe Fluttershy was originally conceived as a stoic oil rig worker rather than a soft spoken animal caretaker?! I doubt that, but it's fun to imagine...
